I just got my MyTouch two days ago, and I'm not very happy with it.
I often get huge delays in action

Maybe try this walk through, http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/how-to-root-the-mytouch-3g-or-g1-in-one-click/ it also has a video and simple step by step instructions.I just read through that “one click root” article… and was lost after the first paragraph.
Pretty intimidated. Definitely an absolute *last* resort option.
However, reading it did teach about one thing I didn't know about: rebooting to recovery mode. I did that and, TBH, it seems to have picked up. Of course, this was less than half an hour ago… so we'll see.
/me crosses fingers
Are you running the Fresh Face app? I know T-Mo hypes it but it sucks badly, will drag your phone to it's knees. If you are running it or any other home apps try unintsalling and see if that helps.
Also, keep on-screen widgets to a minimum. All I have on my MT3G is the default Google search widget and a couple of notification bar things (Battery Meter, Weather Bug) and my phone flies... no lag at all. I do have to occasionally use TaskKiller to keep thing lean and clean, some things like Market or the Music app don't exit with the back button.
Mostly though, the home screen apps (Fresh Face) are unusably slow.
Remember, they are essentially the same phone (I believe) - so you can't expect too much difference.
I am the worlds most impatient person, and I HATE it when things don't work (I'm one of those annoying angry people who throw things) - so I feel your pain.
However: the G1 is a workhorse for many - and I think you'll be happy when you're rooted and tooted. Have a little look around on the forum, I think some of the admin folks are still on G1's.
It may be back to the berry for you then my friend.
I've had the iPhone 3g, and I can't fault it. There are quite a few compromises with it, but in reality it's a brilliant piece of kit.
Give it one last try - root it and get a custom rom. What have you got to lose?
Did and done. I'm running Cyanogen's latest. So far so good. It has made a HUGE difference.
What other ROMs do you recommend that are both really cool & easy to install?
Thank you so much for your suggestions and help.
It is probably just your phone. A lolt of people are griping about the phone, but it is an electronic device. Humans beuilt it which means it is impossible for it to be perfect.
There isn't an electronic device that exists, no matter who built or manufactured it that doesn't have problems. Iphone, Android, Windows Mobile, they all have problems.
I bought my first MyTouch 3G and it wouldn't even power on. I took it back to T-Mobile the next day and it still wouldn't with different batteries. Now I have another one. Upset? Yes! Gripe and complain? No! Why? It is a piece of electronic equipment.
So, maybe it's just your phone. Take it for what it is. ELECTRONICS! Try to resolve it with T-Mobile and get it fixed.
Sorry, if I sounded harsh! Hope you get your issue resolved!
