Help Swype stopped working on HTC First - please help

I have had my HTC First for over a year and have been using Swype (I don't see anywhere on the phone to select the option "Swype," but know that is what it is called) the entire time. Today, without me manually altering any settings, it stopped working. I am required to individually press every key and there is no spell check. This is not acceptable. I have tried turning my phone off and on, and have also uninstalled updates to Google Keyboard app to restore to the factory version, and nothing has helped.
