X instead of signal bars

Hi, I transfered my sim to my new phone and have this signal of an X instead of signal bars. Any ideas?

The new phone is definitely compatible with your service provider?
Try turning the phone off, taking the sim out, putting it back in (to be sure it's seated correctly) and restart the phone. Sometimes it does take a bit for a new phone to set itself up so do give it some time.

Have you taken it to your carrier?

If you're in the US, could be your carrier needs to register and activate it? Also if the phone is used, check it isn't blacklisted?

What is the new phone (exact model), and who are your carrier (don't assume we know what country you are in)?

Once we've established whether the phone is compatible or not we can think about other possible problems.
