Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

The HDMI out they showed was a movie trailer wasn't it? something that was being streamed over 4G or loaded onto the card and played back onto the tv but it wasn't something they recorded with the camera on the phone which is what I was talking about.

As far as the front facing camera, if you don't have 4G then you won't be able to do video conferencing with it unless somehow they make it work with wifi as well as 4G, it's only 1.3 megapixel so I doubt u want to take a lot of still shots with it and there isn't a video conferencing app for it right now anyway according to the people that were showing off the phone which seems to be what most people say they'll want to use that camera for.

As far as monoprice cables, yes they are good, I use them on my ps3, dvd player and my directv HD dvr so I know their quality. I haven't seen though that they sold the cables that would work with the phone, the mini hdmi to full size hdmi, I guess I'll have to check the site out for that. I do remember when the instinct HD came out that if you wanted to buy the cables for that from sprint or samsung it was like $35.00 for them.

I'm not going to do this back and forth justice because I just don't have the memory or technical knowledge...it's all become a blur. What I do know for sure is....I live in a WiMax area....I like the idea of the larger screen....and these other features are indeed intriguing. And...I also like the idea of the less expensive plan.

Once again, I will have to bow to someone else on the importance, usefulness, or function of the other features. I think both phones are great.

One final note. If I ask the opposite question....and once again this is personal and specific to me and my location....why would I want the Incredible over the EVO 4G?...all I can come up with is....perhaps the Incredible will be more pocket-able and perhaps Verizon would be more reliable? My answers to these questions are: Well...I'm happy with Sprint...rarely a dropped call...and I do live in Austin...with WiMax. For the other question...I plan on visiting a TMobile store to hold the HD2...to see how it feels in hand....and then a Verizon store to check out the Incredible. I have a feeling I will still be with Sprint and this new phone based on my personal criteria and all the items I've put forth.

Hopefully someone else can address you in more technical terms over the other features.

I find it interesting that there are quite a few people who have a Pre (small phone) who are excited about the EVO (very large phone). I'm looking at the N1 or EVO but I'm concerned about how big the EVO is (particularly width).

I teach at a college and yesterday a student was using a HD2. I held it up to my students, and literally all of them begin to laugh and make fun of the size. I asked if they thought it was too big and they all said yes. I don't believe many will buy the EVO, just the technical gadget crowd that is a minority. The idea of 4G sure is a strong reason to buy over the N1.

I hear ya for sure...this is why I want to check out the HD2. Other than screen size...it's about 4G for me. I hope to see an HD2 tomorrow. Funny thing is....I saw an N1...and thought it was cool...nice size...but thought it might be nice to be just a little larger. It will be interesting to see if this holds true when I check it out. My vision isn't as good as it once was...so it may come down to physical form versus viewing size.

I have the HTC Touch, pretty much the same form factor and size as the Pre and I am more then excited to go to the other extreme and get the "huge" EVO.

having a small phone has it's advantages but it sure is hard to do stuff on a 2.8 screen (I do remote desktop sessions through Logmein to my home computer almost daily and it is very tedious work on that screen so I can't wait for the 4.3 goodness)

The Evo is where it is at. It is a far better more advanced phone than the incredible, and in my opinion it looks much better for the simple fact taht the entire front of the device is besically a screen. Not 2" of black nothing like the incredible.

The phone is not only the best device available for those in 4G markets but those in 3G as well. You will be able to record video with the front facing cam and post it on FB or where ever else you want. It just can;t go live to the qik site unless you have 4G or wifi. You get that huge 4.3" screen to run over 38,000 apps on. Its clarity and shear size is superior to the unincredible.

Think of The Evo as the older better looking brother to the unincredible. The unincredible is like a project an artist stopped working on because he had a better idea-the Evo!!!!

It may (still haven;t been able to get this confirmed or not but if you don't see commercials tomorrow this is more than likely the case) be the first android 2.5 phone. 2.5 will be the last upgrade to android for a little less than a year.

Soo as i like to say, switch to Sprint, Do something SUperosnical yes?

My original post had nothing to do with you really because I was talking mainly about people who live in non 4G areas, since you live in a 4G area then I think it's a no brainer that you get the Evo unless it's just too large for you when you get some hands on time with it.

Is that limitation in place because of the 8mp camera creating huge files? Because as it stands I can upload live video with my Samsung moment over 3g with it's 3.2mp camera to Qik right now, not sure why it wouldn't let you do it unless it was because of the huge files the 8mp camera would create. Then again you could just use the front facing camera can't you?

Lol this is the second site that has been down for me within the past 36 hours. I'm a huge Dolphins fan and the Brandon Marshall trade just obliterated the servers of a Dolphins forum I go to....and now this. Hopefully they don't go down when the EVO 4G information is released, I would like to celebrate with my Android brothers (and sisters) :D

I'm a little worried about size too, but we have 30 days to try it out. My thoughts are that in that amount of time I'll learn to love, or at least accept the size for everything else it brings. I've seen a few people out there interested in the Dell mini 5 for their next phone which is around 5"!
