The author of the article is right on for the most part. Im willing to pay $199 for the latest and greatest once a year so I dont mind if WiMax will be the niche 4G tech in a year or two. By then, I'll move on to an LTE phone of stick with WiMax, who cares whats happening in 18 months...I'll have my EVO Friday and be able to upgrade in a year.

If I'm not mistaken, AT&T and Yahoo are partnering to offer mobile services like google search. So who knows if this is just biased news from the competition?

The Yahoo article wasn't a bad shot at the EVO. It was trying to make a point that 4G is that great....but they are wrong by saying that anyway.

I really didn't take it as a shot at the EVO, just a good explanation of what 4G really is.

Doesn't matter to me tho because I won't use it that much since it is apparently a horrible battery drain, I'm mainly interested in tho EVO in hope that it runs more smooth and lag free compared to the really problematic Hero...I'm cautiously optimistic tho since it is another HTC phone~

The Yahoo article continues to promulgate the tired myth that the reason AT&T is so overloaded on its network and has so many problems with data is the iPhone. This has been demonstrated to be incorrect.

The true fact is that both Verizon and Sprint have higher data usage than AT&T by a long shot. Verizon and Sprint handled 16 billion more MB of data than AT&T in 2009 Boy Genius Report

The problems with AT&T's network is just that they haven't spent the money to make it better. It is that simple. The iPhone just highlights the fact that AT&T's network is incapable of handling data-centric phones.

What this says to me is the other carriers are running scared of the Evo. They are poo poo ing 4G because they don't have it yet. Once they get it it will be the best thing in the world.

For whatever it is worth I had clear service in the Portland area for about 6 months and got 6-7 Mb service vs my previous 1.5 on DSL. Now I have switched to 20 Mb service from Comcast. The point being that if you can get a strong 4g single it will suffice.

4G is hype for most people and will remain so for at least another year. I do not believe that VZW will have their version proliferated through their network that quickly, either.
