Rogers Update is Here

I'm thinking about rooting to 2.1 when Rogers releases the 2.1, since AT&T doesn't have a clue. It should work fine since we both have the x10a, am I correct?

Yes, and Rogers does not block all the features like AT&T. Installing any version of X10a will be the same except the restrictions or crapware added by the carrier, so I would suggest you install a generic one instead of Rogers.

Telus blocks important things

true story
my brother had a HTC touch (WM 5 or 6)
the gps was locked (not very usefull in our case but still...)
wifi was physically disabled (iirc the card was removed)

From what i see, its

Rogers Splash Screen
Rogers MyAccount App
Rogers Shop App
Rogers UrMusic App
Rogers Browser Homepage [course could change it]
Removal of Sony PlayNow App

Unless they keep PlayNow for the 2.1 update haha.

Bolded are all Uninstallable.
Corporate Homepage is hardly a Rogers-exclusive :)

Compared to alot of other Wireless companies, Rogers users get off pretty easy in terms of disabled stuff/unremovable homescreen apps, etc.

For giggles I just did a PC support chat session with Rogers and they said they don't have any information on when it would be available but it will be downloadable from the Rogers web site. I'm assuming either they don't know much about how this works or they mean PC Companion will be downloadable. Either way... they know to say something, but it isn't very helpful :)
