No issues here.

Here's what I did:

- Went into maps with GPS on and it got a lock on. Held the back key to kill the maps app.
- Disabled GPS using the shortcut I have in the notification bar.
- Went back into maps without GPS on. Maps prompted me that GPS wasn't enabled and asked if I wanted to go into settings to enable it, I clicked on "skip." It then locked on my position using just the network.
- Killed the maps app by holding back again.
- Enabled GPS using the shortcut I have in the notification bar.
- Went back into maps with GPS on, and it once again got a lock on no problem.

If it helps I'm using the default kernel supplied with GV.

I'm using the stock kernel and doing it that way didn't work for me.

Is there anything new in 1.5 worth upgrading for? I might not bother otherwise.

I don't like leaving GPS on. Simply for the fact that some apps have permissions that allow GPS location, but I don't feel they really need or should have it just for weather/ads. So I only turn mine on for Maps.

Yeah theres definitely something dodgy there if you do that it seems. Luckily for me it doesnt matter really though

Correct me if I'm wrong, but leaving GPS on will consume battery, for example if you simply are on the homescreen. The process MyLocation will constantly try to get a GPS fix on your location and thus consume battery.

Today I did a bit of navigating: switch GPS on, start SatNav, drive, exit SatNav, switch GPS off. All went without a problem.

The phone doesn't try to get a lock on unless an app such as maps tells it to do so, so sitting on the homescreen will not make the GPS consume battery unless an app is running in the background and monitoring your location.

Whenever GPS is in use the little GPS icon appears in the status bar.

OK another test: I didn't reboot the phone since last time I switched off GPS, so I turned it on and tried to get a GPS lock. And... crap, the GPS fix was unsuccessful.
I rebooted the phone and within 10sec I had a GPS fix. Now leaving GPS ON to see the impact on battery life.

Bottom line: I hope this bug gets fixed in the next GV version...

I'm having the GPS issue since switching to violets havs axis kernel. Music is skipping when browsing the net too, gunna nandroid restore back to old kernel later.

Yes, the ROM 1.5 has an issue which Richard has fixed I believe in his latest kernel, however eviollet has not implemented this fix yet. Although its not a kernel issue, if Richard fixes via kernel and not rom, eviollet will have to change his kernel too.
