Just wondering....

What all could they or could they not check for, and what could cause me to get charged?
I'm not an expert on what HTC can do or does do, but I would suppose they can run diagnostics on a bricked phone and get quite a bit of information (depending on what had been done to the phone). If some of the information doesn't match what they expect to find, I would imagine they'd have a pretty good idea of what had been done to the phone.

Mind you, that's a lot of supposition and guessing, but I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility.

No way they would do this on every phone that comes in. Now, at random? Maybe...like an IRS audit or something. ;)

Just for the record...I have never bricked a phone purposely or otherwise. Not because I was afraid of getting caught but because I feel that it is the wrong thing to do. (Don't accuse me of being the police just because my own conviction says it's wrong.)
