Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Toothless Guarantees: Lowe's has a 20 minute guarantee for their online click and pull service. Your order is guaranteed to be ready 20 minutes after you order, on all eligible items. I ordered at 12 noon, but didn't go until 5:30pm to pick it up. I then proceeded to wait until 6pm, and STILL no sign of my order being brought to the front. I ended up leaving and coming back the next day to get it, cause I had to be somewhere at 6. But I asked the manager what I got for them not meeting their guarantee. Nothing.

This sounds like one of those times I will leave very angry and descriptive comments on review sites for stores. I am careful not to sound to "ranty" (forgive me) and I have gotten owners and managers calling me because of them. I also will call a manager and ask for the regional managers number to complain to when a manager isn't doing their job.

On that note, i think it is just as important to leave the positive comments online and to bosses too. Maybe even more important. Psychologists tent to think positive reinforcement actually works, where negative (complaints) don't work at changing behavior.

Venting to a boss or online does feel good though, and sometimes does get the short-term resolution if done well :D

Employees that give me notice TODAY! Really, there should be a clause in the 2 week notice thing. During the holidays it should be 30 days !!! What ever happened to appreciation anyway? Ya know, when we all pulled together to give you a MONTH OFF during the summer to go to Pakistan ?

This will not be forgotten. This is a small world after all!

This web 2.0 rotating thing...
lightbox_progress.gif

See it on so many sites it just sits there, going round and round and round and round and round and round and round and round and......, with nothing apparently happening.

Can't they implement some kind of progress bar or estimated time, to indicate if anything is actually loading?

It's just another version of the same meaningless thing. It really isn't any better than a blank screen. I agree that a progress indicator that means something would be nice.

I don't know if I'm being an imatient noob thinking it isn't doing anything, or a foolish boob waiting like I'm on dial-up: going to get a bite to eat and coming back to see if it loaded...

You can't even make fun of it. Windows used to have the hourglass turning and someone did a cartoon "Bill Gates in Hell"

He was tied to a chair with that hourglass just spinning in front of him. Rather succinct and well put.

:D

Windows now has a spinning blue bagel, and there's OS X with its spinning beach-ball.

I seem to remember a big marketing play with IBM's OS/2, back in the day, was that it didn't show an hourglass........It had a clock icon instead, to indicate it was busy waiting for something to happen.

That thing is called a "throbber"

The animated GIF for that one I posted is called "lightbox"

Before this web 2.0 "throbber". AFAICT clicking an image thumb-nail, would just open another tab with the full image, so you could usually see if anything was happening or not.

What steams me is talking to a tech person on the phone that doesn't know his job. Yes tech person, there IS a difference between Mb and MB which is also different than KB.

This reminds me of how frustrated I get when I go to VZ to check on phones and releases. I always end up either teaching them a lot about their product line, or leaving in disgust because of the BULL-POO they try desperately to push on me. Especially because they continue to lie or make excuses when I call them on it.

Sorry, but you can not install iPhone apps on an Android. Dinkus.
