Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] [Recovery][VM]CWM 6.0.4.8 Touch for the LG Optimus F3

The age of the phone is not what's important but whether there are custom roms available, which there are, KitKat being just one of many. Not to mention there is still active development going on for the S3. As far as T-M or AT&T their plans are just to expensive when you add data and text messaging to the plan ($70 to $80 or more as opposed to $35 a month for everything).
Have you looked into MVNOs? There are plenty at half the cost of AT&T or Tmo right now.

Yup, agreed. I have an unlocked F6 I use to travel overseas, and it would be great to not need several phones.

Yeah, I was in Germany a while back and had AT&T which as you know uses GSM. It was flawless calling to friends here in the states. Going to Italy in march but unfortunately VM isn't going to cut the mustard with CDMA even if I roam, lol.

We went on a 4 week trip over the summer to Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Paris, Luxembourg, Heidelberg, Frankfurt, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore and the phone worked well everywhere.

One of the flights was 13 hours, and it was supposed to be 14 hours! That was the first flight I was able to get any sleep on, all others I couldn't sleep no matter how much I had to drink lol.
When I went to England there was about 50 college students onboard. They partied the whole flight so no one got any sleep, lol.

We had these 4 trust fund douche bags from CA with us from LAX-Frankfurt and they made a total mess. The awesome German flight attendant shoved all their crap that spilled into the aisle all into their space and gave them the look of death. And later I beat one of the bastards at Yahtzee and he shut up the rest of the flight. They were under 25, and they were definitely drinking. but other than that the flights were quiet, it's just difficult for me to go to sleep, even at home in total silence. Plus I'm tall so I don't even fit into the Biz seats/beds. Lucky me :)

If my EVO 3D hadn't been dropped into a hot tub, that's where we'd be... swapping MEIDs, and phone numbers, running KitKat. At least you have the open architecture that made Android famous for mods, and the ability to flash ROMs and bootload kernels... what makes things worse with the LS720 is the updating... Boost has their BoostZone BS piggybacked with every update, and that stuff might be great in markets where hip hop and gangsta crap is the raison d'etre, but, not for a guy like me who was born at the end of the Baby Boom (yes, my song list stretches from Sinatra and Bennett to Maroon 5 and Adele). Which carrier (of the cheaper realm) would any one of you folks go with, if you were like me? I used to be a Virgin Mobile customer when most of their available phones were of the CDMA variety... this Boost BS has got to go... LW

It was the "family plan" but a few colleagues and I did it. $100 for 4 lines and can add more for cheap.
I gotcha, still all said and done that's a really good deal. My boss is looking for a bundle for his family. Right now he's paying well over $300 a month with AT&T...ouch. I'll tell him to check it out. Thanks for that info.

Thanks for this. I've been sitting on it for a while now, finally did it using FX on the phone itself.

I was thrown off by the reboot option in CWMR... it says the stock recovery could come back. I pressed the back button and it rebooted anyway... I still have CWMR though :)

Did you try the Windows Installer?

You'll get the "disable recovery flash" question any time you flash something with cwm recoveries. It's actually only meant for flashing roms with recoveries built in. Just in case you want to keep the one installed. Just answer no and reboot. :D

Thanks for the info, I was about to Google it.

Windows? Hell no! I'm a Linux guy.
I don't have a 'puter right now though, I stepped on my svga cable and shorted out the motherboard.

I extracted the files on my android using FX (like root explorer or ES) then copied and pasted them to the correct location. No computer needed.

I hear ya. Did FX tell you if the paste was successful or not?

You need to have the root plugin, mount the system, blah blah...

But yeah, it was successful. I think it tells you when it's not. However, I didn't see the files dates change so I was unsure.

ZAfter I rebooted into the new recovery, made my first backup, rebooted, and checked, they have today's date.

This isn't my first rodeo.

NeoZiggy, maybe you can help me with my v7 Optimus F3... gherkaul tried to help me (he's great), but my sdext2 remains read-only, and though I can access CWMT 6.0.4.8 through Link2SD Plus, I still end up with a factory reset, and I can't access recovery with volume - and power pressed... financially, I can't afford a phone upgrade right now, and everything relevant is installed: root via Towelroot, BusyBox Free, SuperSU & CWM Superuser as the phone seems to behave better with it installed; Remount, ES File Explorer and Root Explorer. The downside is that my carrier is Boost Mobile. I even installed Universal init.d... any ideas (short of chucking the phone out of the window of a moving car) would be most welcome - LW (I had root and recovery chops back during Gingerbread, but now... whoa...)

This is a CWM Recovery for the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus F3. The recovery should work with all firmware versions (ymmv). I tried to make this newbie friendly for those who are not tech savvy but if you do have any questions I will try to answer them. Everything works that needs to and it has been tested extensively with no problems. But I still have to tell you
