Root [ROM] CTMod 3.80 (04/06/13)

I have been running Data mode all weekend and is so great with all the extra memory and stuff, but I would have to say ssm is way faster, I mean way faster!!!! Using a real true class 10 sandisk card. Will run for a week longer or so to see. Just stating what I see in my experiences! I switched back and forth and even redone to make sure and all runs the same!

Im going to include this advice vce2005 gave me since I think its relevant to the conversation

LogosA said:
hey Im going to do a similar partition like your card

FAT32 = 26GB / ext4 = 2GB / ext4 = 2GB / swap = 2GB

But Its difficult to get the partitions exactly the same size with the sdparter

can I take the sd card out and partition it on my computer ?

vce2005 replied:
NOOOOOOOOO, partition the card on the computer wont work !!!!!!!!

You do everything correctly, however, I would not do any "backup/restore", but rather download the apps new from the PlayStore ( lots have changed in 3.75.2, so restoring some older stuff might cause you trouble. Also, to get the PlayStore icon show up, you need to sign out of your Google account and sign back in !! )

After you downloaded all your apps, use the "Odin Image File Creator to do a BACKUP..... That's all you need..... Run the .bat file, choose "2 = Gingerbread" and twice Y and your whole phone gets backed up to your computer, even your sdext....AND you can leave at the end of this backup a copy of the sdext_restore.zip on your sd-card to flash in CWM if needed !!

Odin Image File Creator : Odin Image File Creator

Is there no way to format my partitions on the card in a way that I can exactly control the size of the partitions instead of using the slider?Either a app or computer program that lets me enter the exact mb?

I always said..... "If you have several partitions already on your sd-card and want to start over, use MiniTool, connect the sd-card to your computer and delete all the partitions and create with Miniool ONE new FAT32 on the card...... then put the card in the phone and create with SDParter the partitions you want..... and yes, it's difficult to get EXACT values ( especially with big fingers ), but a few bytes here and there don't matter " !!

And yes, cwhatever is correct, the swap never ever will use 2GB..... I just set it up this way since I use a 32GB card and don't care about the three 2 GB partitions.... ;)

I have run ssm for a very long time. I have tried data mode for a few days and made every adjustment possible and tried everything, I have to say that ssm is way faster and just had to go back to it! I just wish that ssm could have the storage that data offers, I will just deal with it to have the smoothness and speed!:);):D

I agree. The SSM is what I Always ran. It's fast.

I heard that bro. My poor little Prevail is performing mp3 duty now since it's been deactivated. I will say this though, it's doing a fine job! lol :p

Great I use my extra 1 for the same thing, for just data and information. The calculator n all neat stuff like that still works and obviously the wifi always work if needed please use.

I have found that I can put stuff on the SD card instead of internal memory that I only use once in a blue moon and that saves my internal memory space. Mainly all my games in a few apps. All the important stuff I leave on the phone internal memory. All my apps brought me down to like 20mb, after moving all of the stuff to the SD card that I don't use all the time I'm back up to around 90mb free. Some of my apps hold a lot of data this is working out good for me.

Yeah I still play around with CTMod on my prevail. Nice to know I'm not the only one that enjoys using it as a MP3 player. :)

Yep. It actually makes a great mp3 player. I use PlayerPro with its DSP pack. The added equalizer really makes a big difference in the quality of sound. The party shuffle feature is nice too. I just set it and go. :D

my battery icon is acting like is charging and is draining my battery fast.. any suggestion?

Happens to mine from time to time. your charging port is dirty. Use something to gently clean it out. (i fold a dollar bill to a point and use it to clean the contacts)

In setting up my Prevail on rooting it, I messed up and somehow denied supper user access to CTMod. I can't seem to find a way to fix this.

I have done some Google Searching and Forum Searching, but have not found how to re=set or change the settings..

Anyone know how to fix my mistake?

Go into the super user app, find the entry for ctmod settings, change it to allow... If that doesn't work, you can factory reset and try again...

I have tried that. But when I go into Super user I can't figure out how to toggle or change it to allow. However in messing with it, I went into supper user, then into ctmod.. Then there are 3 gray symbols at the bottom. In the center is a trash can. Well I pushed them all, and it seemed to do nothing. I backed out to the main screen for Supperuser, and CTMod was no longer there. When I went into CTMode again, I was asked to give permission. This time I said yes. All is good now.

Strange, I came to respond to the email notice that someone posted this:
Just what he said. CTMOD drops my signal strength too. It did it on my Prevail and it does it on my Marquee. It's usually about a 1 bar difference or so.

I've been saying this for quite awhile now. Lol
But I am not seeing that post in this thread now???

I will open my mouth anyway.

Bars are a bad way to judge signal strength. Different phone and different providers display bars to signal differently.

Your signal can be the same. It could be the way that signal is displayed in bars that has changed.

On my prevail (rooted with CTMod about two weeks ago), four bars is around 85bd. One bar is about 95 bd. No bars but service is about 100 db. 105 db is equal to no usable signal for me on text, data or voice. Same as it was before I rooted.

In my home area I never get a full 5 bars. And Boost Mobile rates my home address as good service. Also moving you phone from left to right, from top to bottom, with out really moving where in space the phone is, can change the signal by 5 bd easily. Especially when you are in the 95 db range to begin with.

The higher the number in db, the worst the signal.

Have you looked at what your signal really is?

Go to settings, about phone, status, scroll to signal strength. See what in bd your signal is. Before modifying the phone what were your db readings?... etc....

Your right Mike. The interface of CTMOD makes it look like my signal is lower but my DBM is about the same. Sorry it takes me a few days to get used to all this I just flashed my phone a couple days back for the first time.

I appreciate the response.

I completely understand I rooted my phone only a week or so ago and I'm learning as I go. Happy to help. It is my way to give back for the help I have gotten.

I posted the reply but removed it because I really didn't feel like explaining myself again and again.

@ Boostermike. When someone removes a comment, it's usually for a good reason. Please keep that in mind next time. lmao

I've experienced signal loss from not only CTMOD but also CM7. This has nothing to do with the actual bars either. I just use that as a reference for people who don't know what a dbm is.

I've been saying this for quite awhile now too. That's why I removed the damn comment because I knew I was gonna have to come I here and explain myself.

It is not the change in the way your phone shows the signal either. That happened when they changed the baseband awhile back and I've already discussed this with Kouma and TDM. I can have overcast weather here at the house and have no signal at all. I mean the RED X people. I then flash the stock rooted ROM and get signal. This is not a one time thing. Back before they upgraded the tower in my area, I would have to do this from time to time. That is how I discovered that it was an actual loss of signal I was seeing on my phone.

People can say it's the way the phone converts the dbm's into bars all they want. I know what I've experienced and it is a true loss of signal. How else can you explain one ROM not having signal while another does? You can't.

EDIT:

Had to come back in here and add this.
Just because it happens on my phone doesn't mean it'll happen on ALL phones. We all know that these phones have minds of their own and experiences vary. Also, even though I may have experienced a slight loss of signal, I still ran the hell out of CTMod on my Prevail. It's just an all around good ROM and I recommend anyone with a Prevail to give it a try.
