The 3 best specced phones coming by Summer/Fall to Sprint are...

HTC EVO 3D - 4.3 in. qHD (960x540) 3D display with 1.2 ghz dual-core snapdragon processor and 1 GB of Ram, HTC Sense 3.0 UI, 4G, no kickstand :( , Dual 5-mp cams on back to record in 3D (720p in 3D, 1080p in 2D),1.3 mp front cam, and bigger battery than original EVO.

Samsung Within (Galaxy S2) - 4.3 in. Super AMOLED Plus WVGA (800x480) (way better than original SAMOLED IMO) with 1.2 ghz Exynos dual-core processor and 1 GB of Ram, TouchWiz 4.0 UI, 4G, 8-mp camera that shoots 1080p, 2-mp front cam, possible NFC, and bigger battery than EVO 3D.

Motorola Photon 4G - Supposedly the Atrix 4g with a 4.3 in. screen

    http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_atrix_4g-3708.php

All 3 are going to be good, but the Samsung Within is the most powerful out of them all... But your personal preference may be for one of the other phones.

Samsung Galaxy S2 is already out in UK so you can look at some reviews for it and see how the Within will be.

and specs for EVO 3D on Sprint site

And review Motorola Atrix 4G to get a feel of how the Photon 4G might be

The dummies thread in the Evo 3D forum has a more complete spec listing for the 3vo and a lively discussion on the 3 phones listed above.

If you think she'd like a pure Android built by Samsung without the wait, there's also the Nexus S 4G, another great phone.

I mentioned the 3vo because I heard Hero and Evo, and thought you might be HTC fans, but if that's not so, the others are great to consider seriously.

If size, price and Sense are considerations, then the Shift blows a Hero away and the upcoming Kingdom will blow an Evo away but with a 4" screen.

I've read it could be either. Should find out in a few days at the Sprint - Moto meeting.

The Droid X2 isn't 4G, though. I hope they don't pull an Echo on us and release another top-notch non-4G phone. I might consider it instead of getting the Within if its specs play out right.

well, there's rumor of an LG Optimus Slider, which does not look to be a high-end device so it might not come with 4G.

The Nexus S 4G is the best Sprint phone available now.

If you can wait until June 24th, get the Evo 3D.

Nobody knows when the Samsung Galaxy S2 will come to Sprint.

I'm looking forward to the announcements at tomorrow's Sprint/Motorola luncheon! I'm hoping/praying that all the rumors are wrong and the Photon 4G is more like Verizon's delayed Droid Bionic, rather than the X2 or Atrix!

    lolWUT?

The NS4G does not have 720p, a physical keyboard, a notification light, or a microSD slot, yet it is somehow better than the Samsung EPIC 4G?

The rumor mill says that the Samsung Within can be expected by the end of July.

One of our members used to have a sig that said something like:

There is no BEST phone. There are bad phones to avoid and there are phones to consider that might be best for you.

The Epic and NS have feature differences - if they don't matter to the OP and the Samsung Hummingbird and SAMOLED screen common to both does, then either of those could be the best.

The argument that the phone with the most features or better numbers per feature being the best is pretty common.

Those arguments only lead to bad feelings because they don't take into account what people want in form factor, their desired features, etc, etc.

Another user - Outlaw.71 - said no one will build a phone with all the best spec numbers and perfectly top features because when marketing got through pricing such a beast no one would buy it. I think that was extremely wise, too.

BTW - has anyone heard if the Within will be a slider?

OP - does having a slider keyboard matter?

I doubt it will be a slider because it seems like all the S2's are going to have about the same form factor

Well, whatever they do, I hope they don't make the carrier variants too different than the world versions.

I say that because this time around, I'd like to see the US variants get their updates on a timely basis like the rest of the world. I blame the variations taking longer to customize than nonsense about it being the carrier's fault. Example - so far as I know, only the Epic was running something like TouchWiz 2.5 when others were running TW3.

Honestly - the iPhone's model of essentially only varying radios per carrier makes a lot of sense from a support standpoint. The only other manufacturer I can think of trying to get there is Samsung with SGS2 and maybe (maybe!) the HTC 3vo/Sensation. I hope Sprint's acquisition gang stays out of the way and lets Samsung just change radios, allowing the device to shine through as designed.

That said - if they drop the slider the SGS2 and discontinue the Epic as end of life, the only decent slider left on Sprint will be the Shift - hence my question.

+1 on leaving the SGS2 alone. Regarding having no high end slider, Sprint is supposedly getting several other Moto devices in 2011. They could fill the high end slider gap right there. All speculation, of course, but its a reasonable possibility.

Sprint is also getting the LG Optimus Slider and since its Optimus we could expect a Mid to High-end phone depending on which Optimus its based off (i.e if its based off the Optimus 2x then it will definitely be a high-end phone)

Photon 4g specs are the evo with better processor, screen, and more internal storage.

I'm pretty sure the 1.2 ghz dual-core snapdragon is better than the 1 ghz tegra 2 and the qHD pentile matrix LCD on the Photon is definitely not better than the Super-LCD (I think) qHD screen on the 3vo.... Unless you were referring to the OG EVO than you're right.

    Ever actually use an epic?

My wife has one and it is one buggy piece of shit. Specs don't make a phone great any more than benchmarks make a compyter great. It's how it actually performs in real life and the support from the manufacturer and aftermarket that do. I switched to my evo 2 months aftre my wife got the epic because I could see what was happening with the phone and with the lack of support from samsung and sprint. I'm in the "done with samsung phones" group now and will not ever go back. I can't believe how much I love my evo and hope I love the evo3d just as much.

By the way, I finally rooted the epic yesterday and put a custom rom on it to try to fix some of the shortfalls and bugs with it. I may feel differently about it if it starts working. We'll see... Either way I'll never carry another samsung in my pocket.

i agree, samsung has not been very good with software support of their android devices, but i think they are trying to turn that around with the gingerbread updates and with later devices.

evidence: a google device with nexus s, GB for epic, free device to CM dev, etc.
