Root rmk [OP] - [ROM] Virtuous v2.5 (9/1/10): Stock Sense/Froyo v3.21.605.1 w/Fixes & Enhancements

any idea what battery life is line with stock install and max cpu?

of course im considering flashing just so i can UC for battery, but curious how the phone behaves if left on max

thx

Check out my post in this thread #26. That is with the custom kernel. With the stock kernel I just about got the same not quite as good. This ought to give you some idea although usage is user dependent.

I have read the SetCPU page and in trying to decypher the settings posted in threads like this compared to that site I have come to the conclusion I need a bare-bones, plain-english idea of what settings do what for the Inc. I have never used Kernels or SetCPU before, and I am trying to learn...any suggestions or instruction would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!!!

P.S. I am currently on Virtuous 2.6 with the Virtuous custom kernel and SetCPU Main menu set to 384 max 245 min (only change I dare make without knowing what I am doing). Battery life is 100% better....I can now get through an average (for me) day of moderate usage and off charger for about 14-17 hours with about 25-35% left where before the 2.2 update, kernel and SetCPU I would be at 25% or less after only about half that time (if that)!!!

I was running the second overclocked(1152) HydraKernel without any issues whatsoever, currently trying the King's 4 to see if it is as good as they say batterywise....

I was thinking about doing the same thing I kind of just dove into this whole thing in the past 3 days I went from having no idea what I was doing to rooting, new rom, new kernel, and soon a new radio... its funn

If you would give an update on how you like it with this ROM

Curious....why is your max set at 384? Your phone/the snapdragon is meant to run at 998MHz. I set up a profile for when my screen is off with your same 384 max 245 min. When I'm using my phone it's set to ramp up to 998 with on-demand scaling. If your only getting 7-8 hours with your old set-up it sounds like an app keeping your phone awake not the kernel and setcpu. Have you looked into this? There is a ton of info on the forums on how to monitor non-sleeping apps (spare parts or system panel).

The setting is what I saw somebody else post in another thread, I may have it set in the wrong area....goes to show why I need help LOL!!!

As for the 7-8 hours (if I was lucky) that was on stock, no froyo, before upgrading/flashing anything (no SetCPU either). I am getting very good battery life now, I would like to learn how to utilize SetCPU to get better life, but if I have to live with what I have now, I can deal!! :)

hah! No worries the 384/245MHz you saw was most likely a "screen-off" profile set up in setcpu. This clocks the CPU to those speeds when the screen is off to better your battery life. The "main screen" in setcpu (the screen that first pops up when you open the app) typically would be to have the MHz sliders set to "Max: 998400 and Min: 245000"

Since you have Adrynalynes custom kernel (I do as well) try this 998 max and 245 min and set your scaling to "ondemand." Then go to the "profiles" tab at the top and set up a "Screen Off" profile (Condition) and set max to 384 and Min to 245. Use "conservative" scaling and set the Priority to 100. When you turn your phone on and are using it setcpu will monitor and control your CPU speed according to your demands or the softwares demands on the CPU. When your screen is off it will set it to your screen off profile and save battery.

If you try this (this is the exact set up I am using and get roughly 30-35 hrs uptime with 5-6 hrs awake with the HTC 1500maH battery) be sure to put a check in the "enable" box under profiles and on the "Main" screen put a check mark in the "Set on Boot" box.

Obviously everyone is different and this might not be what you are looking for. Hope this helps :)

Well IMO Virtuous 2.6 rocks, lately I was using SkyRaider ROMS which I consider great too but in his new ROM updates the developer opted to go in every direction but the sense layout that I kind of like, for Vanilla and what not I have my Droid. Now back to the 2.6, I've always been very happy with HydraKernels which have proved to be very stable and fast, me been a speed freak obviously will overclock everything and anything, the HydraKernel-32 was peaking at 1152 Mhz without any hiccups at all but while researching this forum some users really recommended the new Kings #4 with the updated technology to deal with the new Froyo leaks and get better battery duration so I decided to give it a try, so far so good, very stable and fast while at 1152 setting with the SetCPU app., I can go up to 1190 but experienced some issues while browsing the web, as for the battery, still under observation but it seems to be lasting a little bit more. Good Luck with your combo !

Thank you very much, that is what I needed to start learning about this app. I am trying your settings now, and I will see what battery life I end my day with tomorrow!!!

P.S. What is the bit with 'battery <20%' in the image above?

Also...rayporsche....with my limited knowledge of things so far, wouldn't those settings make your Inc run hot a lot?

I'm down to 1152-max / 245-min and is running good, not sure about how hot could be very hot, when I use it a lot like nonstop multitasking it always feels hot, at one point in time I installed the cpu/batt temp measuring app but it always hovered below the 110 degrees neighborhood so I sttoped worrying, it is like the battery deal, it doesn't matter how careful you are the thing will drain quick, fast and in a hurry......if you use it that is, so I always carry a spare one....

That is another profile I set up when the battery level gets below 22% it clocks the CPU down to a max of 576MHz (it keeps the CPU from running above this level) to save battery life even more. I never let my phone get this low anyways so it's kind of useless....I'm always around a power source, but in case I'm not this will conserve juice even more. At least that's the theory behind it :D

Well...it is about 3 in the afternoon and I am at 70% battery life with moderate usage. Not bad. I will see if it changes in the next few days, but at this wate (40% over 8 hours) I am on a good track for getting a normal day out of the battery with enough left for emergencies or the occasional later than normal day!! Thanks

Thanks, I like this rom I just installed the revolutions theme and like it so far but I think I'm going to give this Hyrda #1 a few more days then test out the Kings #4

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but when I use a screen-off profile of 245 / 384 - conservative, the phone takes considerably longer to wake when unlocking or receiving a call. Also, after unlocking there tends to be a slight lag when scrolling between screens for a second or two. I guess it's a trade off of performance and battery life.

I personally like the phone to be instantly responsive and snappy when I wake it, so I've been using a screen-off profile of 245 / 537 - conservative, and it's been working great.

Interesting a few have posted this here and at xda definitely some merit to it. However, mine wakes up instantly with zero lag with a 245/384 screen off profile. Could be app/kernel related maybe? Or even setcpu related? Or that I used adrynalynes custom kernel. I did have this lag you speak of with kings kernels.

I've been using this profile for a couple weeks now, and have never experienced any lag turning on/logging in. Raising this from 384 - 537 in theory shouldn't make much difference at all. The OS doesn't need a ton of cpu to display the lock screen. I suspect that people seeing this issue have some other variable causing this.

  • Framework-res.apk changes to integrate the following:
    • Integrated Smooth Sense (with white battery text) into framework.
Credit to Jercik of XDA for designing the the mod.
    • Support for Rotary Lock. It is not enabled in any way by default.
    • Special thanks to ihtfp69 for providing an immense about of help with this process.

    • Both the stock (now: v3) and custom (now: v2) kernel images have been updated.
    • Only a ramdisk adjustment, no changes to the actual kernel itself.
    • If you observe any other effect, it is purely placebo, trust me.
  • Moved boot animation to /system/media/bootanimation.zip.
  • Installation script fixes and enhancements to improve logic around placing apps in /data/app.
  • Throughly tested by our new beta test group, thank you guys (acknowledgement page updated soon).
