Its come time to part ways

Because I am paying $10 for a premium experience.

That is just silly in my opinion. You didn't download a huge file (100 plus mbs) over much faster Wifi and instead downloaded over a 3g connection because you pay 10.00 for a Premium experience? Without getting into the 10.00 premium discussion (or argument depending on how you view it) that 100mb file is not going to download a whole lot faster on any other 3g network and you will be paying at a minimum 5.00 to 10.00 more per month for the new carrier so really like a 15.00 to 20.00 premium. Sprint's biggest mistake with the newer pricing was in calling the 10.00 increase a Premium charge. I understand why they did it but they should have just done what AT&T and Verizon and T-Mobile(? not sure about them) do and charge more for Smartphone data, because that is exactly what they are doing. Smartphones use more data plain and simple. And higher end processors chew through it faster, but I digress. I am not trying to convince anyone to stick with Sprint if they are not happy and I am not discounting the fact that you have had a bad experience with speeds on the network. Sprint is not the fastest network. It is the best fit for me where I live and I get good speeds (average 900-1100 kbps 3g, 5-8mbps 4g) or I get on Wifi when I need faster downloads. I understand what you are saying, that you are paying for something so you are going to use it, but I also pay for super fast Cable Internet at my house (50 mbps) so I am going to use that over 3g anytime I am home.

I'm not too upset with the fee, but I just wish their 4G was more stable. I'm even fine with the 3-5 mb/s speeds that are far lower than verizons. I just wish 4G was more stable. Finally the reason why they made it a $10 premium 'fee' is so they could stop all of us with employee discounts from receiving our discounts on that $10 had they put it into the 'plan' price. The only way you get a discount on fees from sprint is if the fee is over $30(hence the 29.99 Hotspot Fee) which they don't have many, if any.

I'm the OP. I just wanted to update everyone. I did switch to att for the infuse 4g and a Samsung focus. My plan comes out to the same price. But yes I do have the 2 gig data cap. The charge if I go over is 10 for each extra gig. However the plan isn't identical. Dollar for dollar sprint is a better deal. No doubt. However I am loving the data speeds I get with att. Always between 2megs to 3 megs. Slower than wimax. But I get good speeds almost everywhere vs wimax only 5% of the time.

And I will say I have had 2 dropped calls so far. Sprint rarely dropped my calls. And yes I have unlimited mobile to any mobile.

Overall I'm happy with the switch. If I were getting better speeds from sprint I would have been OK to stay. I'm glad some of you get great speeds. I live about 30 minutes from the Philly sports complexes so this isn't the woods. It could have been an HTC evo problem also. But sprint would keep telling me the phone was fine. 200kbs isn't fine.

Oh man...if you had waited a month, you may have been able to get the Galaxy S II, the Attain. All three carriers' variants are rumored to drop in July. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be released before your 30 days are up. :)

I saw that link you posted, have you heard any more rumors? I'm torn between between the EVO 3D and Samsung Galaxy S 2 (Within). If I dont hear anything before the end of June I'm gonna get the EVO 3D; since Sprint gives me an upgrade every year, I does not make sense for me to wait all summer for a new phone.
(yes, i know about Samsung's upgrade history)

Well I have to be saying so long to sprint. It just to be too much. 1st taking away the annual upgrades on my family acct. Now I found out if I do upgrade my phone to any smart phone them I have to pay an additional 10 per line for "premium data". Ive had my evo since launch and have not experienced this premium data. In fact my data speeds are either throttled or just embarrassingly slow. I'm talking 200 to 300kbs. Thats not premium to me. They offered to give me back just once the upgrade offer on the primary line. But its just not enough.

The relationship started out rough when I found out my old htc hero had terrible ring lag. Sprint sets the timer on connection to VM and it cant be changed. Since my phone would take 2 rings to wake up. I had about 10 seconds or less before my caller was in my vm. Sprint had me take my phone to service center where they said my phone was fine and this is normal...not good enough.

So its time to say goodbye. Its not the money. Its not the yearly upgrade. Its the way it was handled. Its dan hesse getting on tv lying about their unlimited data at 69per month when its 79 premium data. Its the way they say my data isnt capped yet its so slow that it is capped by time.

Good luck guys. Its just not worth the trouble anymore.

Yeah, I'm in agreement with you. 4G costs and them taking away annual upgrades has me in uproar. Only problem is that Sprint realizes that they are the cheapest choice. The only one better is T-Mobile and they're more expensive and less coverage. Sprint realizes that our choices are limited so they're deciding to take advantage of that while they can. And our other choices like Boost Mobile and Virgin are owned by them so either way, they feel like they've won.

It's really sick. Don't know where you're going to get anything better, but good luck to you.

No, haven't heard anything. Have you seen the specs? It blows most everything out of the water.

True but total comparable plan to Sprint is 84.99 and that is with 2gigs of data. Extra data is added at 15.00 per 200mb automatically when you go over the 2gigs. Granted 2gigs may be enough for most users but I used over 7gigs last month. I'll keep my unlimited data and stay with Sprint.

It is 10 a gig for going over 2 gigs, not whatever you said.

oh yea, the SGS2 is impressive. I want to take advantage of my yearly upgrade asap, so I'm in a major predicament here. To wait, or not to wait?
I am trying to look at the bright side: last year the EVO 4G was the only phone that really stole the show. This year I have EVO 3D, SGS2 (Within), or Photon. Not sure what to do... leaning towards SGS2 or EVO 3D.

I'm not familiar with Photon. And honestly, I haven't looked into the 3D too much because i'm not eligible for an upgrade (if I stay) until the end of August. Wow, that's not as far away was it used to sound..lol..

I've been comparing two phones at AT&T (Atrix and Inspire). Neither of them has all the features Epic does. So I was really not happy with my choices. Then I heard SGS2 would be here soon and I started paying attention. THEN I looked at the specs, and WOW. This phone blows everything AT&T offers out of the water by far. Hell, Inspire doesn't even have front facing camera. Atrix has a locked boodloader, and uhh..motoblur..

I could go on and on, but I'll say this much. The first GS's had glitches and bugs. After browsing heavily on Atrix and Inspire's forums, so do they! Lots of them. So I'm willing to take a chance on GS2, because if they all potentially have glitches, I'm going for the phone with the most amazing specs. And you can't TOUCH the Samsung screens. You can actually see it in bright daylight..beautiful AND functional!

That's not an option for all of us, and Sprint set the upgrading up like that, so I don't see why it's a suprise someone should do it.

However my experience with Sprint has been good, although I think the $10 charge should have been handled differently, and the Silver/Gold fiasco was bad judgement as well.

No, data does not get throttled to 256k when you go over 5GB on your smartphone. At least not here.

Yes I am sure there is a percentage of users that never have access to Wifi and a large percentage that do not have access to 4g but the majority do. And the user I was speaking to sounds like they have home internet and Wifi that they could use but didn't because they pay a 10.00 premium for Sprint and they were going to use it no matter what. I was simply pointing out, and perhaps I should have worded it more carefully, that when downloading a 100 + mb file why wouldn't someone use the fastest internet available. Yes the assumption is that 3g is not the fastest they have. I have Cable, 4g, and 3g and am going to use my WiFi every time.

They took away annual upgrades from those who don't spend Premium dollar with them. It is a business and they are here to make money. Giving things away is just not a good business practice. I understand where you are coming from but they didn't do it to take advantage of anything. They kept the cheaper plans as they were (yes they added 10.00 to new smartphone plans) but took away subsidized upgrades on a yearly basis because I am sure they were losing money (or making very little). Meanwhile they are giving the customers who pay top dollar additional benefits for paying more. Sprint has improved customer service, tech support, repairs, etc. That all costs money as does their planned Network upgrade which benefits the customer as well as reduces costs for them in the long run. Yes we the customer are paying for the upgrades and when the network becomes more cost effective for them I doubt they will lower prices but thems the breaks in America.

I'm planning on getting the Within, unless something about the Photon wows me. I won't get an HTC device unless they fix their social networking integration.

What's wrong with HTC's Social Network integration? I ask because I have only owned HTC Android devices and I enjoy Sense's Facebook integration and use the official Twitter app integration with Android. Does Samsung have a better integration inside TouchWiz? In so far as Android goes it is my understanding that they removed Contact syncing with Facebook app on Vanilla Android because of something Facebook does or doesn't do with saving contact info. Again just curious.

Samsung pulls FB contacts from its own client, so I don't need the official Facebook app for that. I use TouchWiz to post to Facebook, Twiter, and MySpace all at once. It also pulls contacts from all three.

So in order to fix HTC social integration you would need MySpace and the ability to post to all three? HTC has good Facebook and Twitter integration but they are probably never going to add MySpace. I didn't think anybody real actually used it anymore honestly.
